So, basically every week I paint my nails. I never, ever miss a week. It’s one of the few tasks that I enjoy being religiously consistent. It started in ’08 when I’d decided I was sick and tired of getting that acrylic mess on my nails. My mother would always say to me, “I don’t know why you get them fake nails when you have your own nails!” She was right. Mothers usually are always right, even if we never admit it. But that’s another topic.
Anyway, my nails grow extremely fast on their own to the point where I have to clip them every few days. As a little girl, I would cry every time my mother would say, “Little girls shouldn’t have long nails,” as she held my fingers in one hand and a nail clipper in the other. I’d be so mad.
The acrylic stuff would always make my nails brittle and irritatingly thin. So I stopped getting that and became a high-maintenance-weekly-manicure chick. That got old really fast because the polish never lasted long. It would start chipping as soon as the next day! Or I would accidentally smudge them, all because I was too impatient to let them fully dry at the shop. That’s a sure way to annoy the technicians, by the way. hehe.
My weekly manicures were becoming costly and I wasn’t having that, so I took to purchasing my own polish. In a few short months, my collection grew fast and before I knew it, I had over 60 polishes! (Of course that number has been significantly reduced due to the fire).
But yeah, I have my ritual. It’s usually Thursday nights while I’m watching My Strange Addiction (hilarious show, btw). If not Thursday night, then it’s Sunday night. Either way, those nails get painted. Sometimes twice a week. And it’s always a few hours before I go to bed. I paint two coats first, and then a clear coat–for that wet, finished look–right before I hit the sack.
Every now and again, I’ll let my cuticles go bare for a day to let them breathe. But soon, it’s right back to business. Polishing my nails relaxes me, makes feel pretty and uber feminine. I never aim to match my polish with my OOTD (outfit of the day) either. I just do it for fun. To enhance my beauty. To feel like a girl. Every woman should pamper herself. Why? Because you’re worth it!
Do you have any favorite polishes? Any long-lasting brands you suggest? Do tell!

I love this. I think I’m going to start polishing my nails too since I can’t stand getting them done professionally – not my style – but I do like the idea of polishing my own nails.
